...a chat at lunchtime in 2010 and the ball was rolling...

 

It was a special meeting, one that was not planned but with consequences. Meeting Steve Clay, CEO of YMCA Black Country Group (then called West Bromwich YMCA), England at the 2010 World Council was "accidental". Today I am convinced that it was initiated by the Holy Spirit. The exchange over lunch about the identity of the YMCA and the spiritual roots of our movement inspired both of us and led to the establishment of "UNIFY", an open network for European YMCAs.

The aim of UNIFY is to strengthen the Christ-centered work in the YMCA, as it is expressed in the Paris base (1855), and to exchange ideas about it. The first UNIFY conference took place in January 2012 in Northampton, England, others followed in 2014 in Görlitz and in 2016 on Hasliberg in Switzerland.

To worship God, to understand the calling of the YMCA more deeply, to gain inspiration for local work, to meet brothers and sisters from other countries and to pray for one another, are all essential contents of the conferences. In August 2015 a Youth UNIFY Camp took place in Lublin, Poland for the first time with 120 participants from 8 countries.

Es war ein besonderes Zusammentreffen, eines das nicht geplant war aber mit Auswirkungen. Die Begegnung mit Steve Clay, CEO des Black Country YMCA, England auf der Weltratstagung 2010 war „zufällig“. Heute bin ich überzeugt, dass sie vom Heiligen Geist initiiert war. Der Austausch beim Mittagessen über die Identität des YMCA und die geistlichen Wurzeln unserer Bewegung hat uns beide inspiriert und führte zur Gründung von „UNIFY“, einem offenen Netzwerk von europäischen YMCA.

Ziel von UNIFY ist es, die christuszentrierte Arbeit im YMCA, wie sie in der Pariser Basis (1855) ausgedrückt ist, zu stärken und sich darüber auszutauschen. Die erste UNIFY Konferenz fand im Januar 2012 in Northampton, England statt, weitere folgten 2014 in Görlitz iund 2016 auf dem Hasliberg in der Schweiz.

Gott anbeten, die Berufung des YMCA tiefer verstehen, Impulse für die lokale Arbeit gewinnen, Geschwister aus anderen Ländern begegnen  und füreinander zu beten sind wesentliche Inhalte der Konferenzen. Im August 2015 fand zum ersten Mal ein Youth UNIFY Camp in Lublin, Polen mit 120 Teilnehmern aus 8 Ländern statt.
